SISUU founder Emma Shearman

Meet the Founder: Emma Shearman of SISUU

When I first discovered the SISUU Magnesium Recovery Spray at a boutique in Long Jetty it truly was love at first spray! I have used other Magnesium Sprays before but this one hit different and I guess it has a lot to do with it being formulated with the highest quality of magnesium oil on the market.

Intrigued by their mystical packaging and the positive impact it had on my body, I needed to learn more so I have invited SISUU founder Emma Shearman to share more about her beautiful brand who we are proud to be an official stockist of!

W&CF: Hi Emma, thanks for catching up with us. You launched SISUU [SEE-SU] in 2020 which is a Finnish concept that describes the feelings of stoic determination and the tenacity of purpose, grit, bravery and resilience. What inspired you to start SISUU?

Emma Shearman: The concept of SISUU deeply resonates with me on a personal level, especially in how it reflects resilience and strength. These values have been a constant theme in my own life, especially as I’ve faced challenges, both personally and professionally. I wanted to create something that embodied this inner strength, offering people a way to reconnect with themselves and the natural world around them. SISUU was born out of my desire to create products that not only support the body but also encourage a deeper sense of purpose and grit, in line with the SISUU philosophy.

W&CF: You have developed a brand with two core products: the SISUU Tonic and Recovery Spray. How do these products support your body and wellbeing and how do you suggest incorporating them into a morning and evening routine?

ES: The SISUU Tonic is designed to be a natural digestive and metabolic support. It’s a potent blend of apple cider vinegar, ginger, turmeric, and other active botanicals that stimulate digestion, balance the gut, and boost immunity. I like to take a shot first thing in the morning to kickstart the day. It also works wonderfully as an afternoon pick-me-up.

Our Recovery Spray, on the other hand, is packed with magnesium and aloe vera, offering a topical solution for muscle recovery, stress relief, and better sleep. I recommend using it in the evening, right before bed, to help ease tension and promote relaxation. Together, they offer a holistic way to nurture the body and support your well-being from the inside out.

W&CF: I’m going to sound like a nanna but your Recovery Spray has worked a treat on soothing the discomfort I often experience in my hip and my knee. What
inspired you to create this spray and how did you go about formulating such a potent formula?

ES: I love hearing stories like this! The Recovery Spray came from my desire to offer a natural solution to something so many of us experience—muscle and lack of energy. I was inspired by the power of magnesium, which is essential for muscle function and recovery. However, oral magnesium doesn’t always get absorbed efficiently, so I wanted to develop a topical alternative.

We use magnesium chloride in the spray, which is easily absorbed through the skin, combined with aloe vera to aid absorption and reduce the tingling sensation some people feel with magnesium. The result is potent yet gentle. We worked hard to find the right supplier who used high quality, didn’t dilute down the magnesium but made the texture manageable.

W&CF: I won’t lie, I was immediately drawn to your beautiful branding and packaging when I spotted SISUU in store, especially the graphic of the part human, part fish with a crescent moon above. Can you share what each element represents and how it ties back to your brand and mission?

ES: Thank you! I worked with Moa Johnson, a friend and logo master, and then Ben Gailbraith on packaging design. A dream team really, so they deserve a lot of the credit. Each element of the design was thoughtfully chosen to reflect SISUU’s ethos of of using natural elements, to feel strong and alive. The part-human, part-fish graphic is a nod to the connection between humans and nature, especially our relationship with the ocean. The fish represents fluidity, adaptability, and the natural world, while the human aspect reflects our journey of personal growth, strength, and resilience.

The crescent moon symbolises cycles and renewal—just as the moon waxes and wanes, we too go through phases of growth and rest. Altogether, the design embodies the balance between nature and the self, which is core to our mission at SISUU.

W&CF: As a brand you believe in the power of ritual including time spent in nature, cold plunges, sauna sessions and breathwork. For someone who has never tried these things before, can you share the benefits and what results they might experience by incorporating these modalities into their lives?

ES: These practices, while simple, are transformative. Cold plunges stimulate circulation, reduce inflammation, and build mental resilience. Saunas help detox the body and relieve muscle tension, while breathwork is an incredible tool to calm the mind, reduce stress, and improve lung capacity. By integrating these into your daily or weekly routine, you’re giving your body a chance to reset and your mind a way to find clarity and calm. You truly feel the most alive and content, post these modalities.

W&CF: A business that gives back is a business that has my heart! You donate 5% of your profits to seaweed restoration. What is your personal connection and relationship to the ocean?

ES: Absolutely. For me, the ocean is my pillar—it’s where I feel the happiest, the most alive, and in tune with myself. It’s also my greatest teacher, showing me the ebbs and flows of life in ways that words can’t fully capture. The health of the ocean’s ecosystem is crucial to its survival, which is why we donate to the Crayweed Society. They work tirelessly to restore underwater forests off the coast of Australia, which are vital habitats for marine life. These forests have been depleted over the years, and their work helps to bring back the biodiversity that the ocean needs to thrive.

W&CF: Do you have any plans to launch more SISUU products in the future? If you do, can you please give us a hint at what they might be?

ES: Yes! It's my favourite business. We’re currently working on ways to upcycle the beautiful ferments from the brewing process of the SISUU Tonic. It’s still in R&D, but we hope to introduce something that not only tastes delicious but also harnesses the healing properties of these natural ingredients. Stay tuned—it’s an exciting time for us!
